Before telling them that he tested positive for coronavirus, an employee of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, who was suspended over corruption charges, hugged and kissed Human Resource Director Jamil Farooqui and other senior staff in the office.

On October 5, Shehzad Anwar, the KMC land assistant director posted in Landhi, was suspended, and after his failure to report to the HRM director after the suspension, his salary was docked by the HR department.

Samaa quoted Farooqui as saying that by entering his office on a false pretext, Anwar was trying to get close to him.

There was a panic at the secretariat, with people running out after Anwar announced that he had tested positive for the deadly virus.

Farooqui said he would take legal action against the assistant director of the KMC, Anwar, for attempting to hurt him and other employees. “I tested positive for COVID for four months, but after my interaction with Anwar, I will resume the test,” he said.

A case was subsequently lodged against Anwar at the City Court police station under sections 34 (common intention), 186 (obstruction of a public servant) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code. Anwar, who was a KMC stenographer, “[forcibly] hugged and kissed him” on his forehead, according to the FIR.
