Greedy husbands often brutalize or even murder their wives to get their hands on their wives financial or land resources. Such an incident is what happened with Sahar Khan, who resides in Alipur Muzaffargarh. Her husband set her on flames during last December, to claim her insurance of Rs 1 crore.

While talking to one of the local news agency reporters, Sahar stated that she was happily married. The couple had six children together. Everything was fine; half an hour before the incident, they were laughing together. She also posted a picture on Facebook titled’ With Hubby ‘(with husband). And half an hour later, her world was changed. Her husband poured petrol on her and set her on fire, locking the door of the room.

She also told the reporters that her children were standing outside watching the whole ordeal while she continuously screamed and tried her utmost to extinguish the fire. “As they put out the fire, I fainted.” Said Sahar.

Furthermore, she told the reporters that “Everyone around me thought that I was dead, but people from my neighborhood started gathering around the minute they heard my screams. When I became conscious I was at the hospital, I told the authorities that my husband had tried to murder me and set me on fire, and then the police officers arrested him.”

Miss Khan is now working with the renowned Duplex Smile Again Foundation (DSF), an organization that supports victims of fire burns or acid attacks. Along with being treated at the foundation, the victims are trained with a variety of other skills.

Admiring the Duplex Smile Again Foundation’s hard work, Sarah Khan said, “The foundation performed three operations on her. They have also provided her a sewing machine, taught her cooking for her online business.”

Duplex Smile Again Foundation treats burn affectees and equips them with different skills. Chef Zainab Ahsan has been conducting the cooking classes for the last three weeks for more than ten women, including Khan.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, Ahsan said, “I try to teach them how to cook food while standing away from the fire so that they can prepare and sell food in a short time. I not only tell these ladies the recipe but also teach them how to prepare parcels of food, how to market the food materials, who to sell these foods to. I am also involved in training the ladies on creating an online market for their business.”

Khan says this class is a blessing in disguise for her during this challenging time. She also looks forward to learning something from here that will pave the way for her to gain financial independence and support her children on her own.

An optimistic Khan added, ‘I have a degree in MA Economics. I have also applied for a job in some places many times but did not get a job because I have never worked before, so I don’t have any work experience. The second reason maybe my face. The admins always think about how I may meet people, communicate with them, or react when they see my face.”

Sahar Khan’s ordeal is not only a source of inspiration for women but also for every human being. It teaches us that we, as individuals, should face adversity with utmost conviction. Through such determination as Sahar showed along with her confidence, any young lady can attain her goals.
